At some point we started to believe that “Dreams have Deadlines”. That’s definitely NOT true. We may have been told that if you haven’t made your mark, found your path, or fulfilled your “purpose” by a certain age… well, it’s just too late. The truth? Dreams don’t expire. They evolve.
Think about it… the dream you had when you are 20 may be very different than the dreams you had at 30, or 40. Our lives change, and our dreams change – they evolve and grow as we do.
No where…. Absolute nowhere…. is it written that after 50 you don’t have dreams. Or to express long-ignored ones. The reality is…. our second act is where the real magic can begin.
The Myth of Missed Chances (and the Truth About Second Acts)
It’s easy to believe the window has closed. Especially in midlife, when life’s responsibilities can feel heavier than our ambitions. But purpose isn’t a one-time shot — it’s a living, breathing relationship with your soul’s desires. When you feel those ‘inklings’ those callings for something more. They are a sign that you’re just being reminded to listen again.
Each one of us has something that we are here to do, to express. And that expression can take an unlimited number of ways. Sharing wisdom to help future generations, a skill or talent that wasn’t ‘practical’ or you didn’t have time for earlier in life. Those innate gifts are still there – and midlife is often the time they speak louder…. Asking to be acknowledged. Not to pick up where you left off, but to be expressed into something even more aligned with who you are now.
Real Stories, Real Shifts
I’ve worked with women who rediscovered forgotten dreams — writing, art, travel, healing work — decades after their initial spark. And when they gave themselves permission to reexplore them, something clicked: Clarity. Confidence. Joy.
Not because they had it all figured out, but because they were expressing who they are, and what they are here to give, at this time of their lives.
Where to begin?
To start hearing / recognizing that little ‘inkling’ again, find a few minutes of quiet time. As difficult as that may be in your busy life, it will help you hear that ‘calling’. Walk in nature, spend time near or in water, make a list of all the things you loved to do when you were young…even sit for a few minutes in your car before going in to care for your family. The goal is to quiet the chatter that is always around us – so you can more easily listen to what’s within you. Your next first step can be as simple as a desire to uncover what is possible. And ooohhh, you have so very much to share!!!!
